Here we have Toyota IQ BEV Plug In with lithium batteries.

"Lithium became now an industry's energy storage technology of choice and we can talk about doubling capacity and cutting prices by half in five year period of time. Industry insiders at Frankfurt Motor show 2009 pointed out to price vs capacity as the main obstacle at the moment for mass market. All advanced Hybrid models and all Plug Ins BEVs are using Lithium, including Toyota which has sighted high Lithium batteries cost as a reason to continue its old range of Hybrids with Ni batteries."

Toyota unveils electric iQ

Toyota is no stranger to the idea of small EVs but this FT-EV II concept that bows at the Tokyo Show is clearly its most serious contender yet.
FT-EV II (for Future Toyota Electric Vehicle) takes to the stage as a compact, glassy, short distance electric commuter.

Measuring 2730 mm end to end, it's even shorter than an iQ, on which it's clearly based, yet with generous 1680 mm width and 1490 mm height at its disposal, it's still able to carry four people, Toyota says.
Toyota's new electric baby has twin electric sliding doors for easy entry and exit and under floor lithium-ion battery pack.
There's no accelerator or brake pedals: instead those functions along with steering are controlled by a joystick, utilising drive-by-wire technology.
Drive range per full charge is set at 56 miles and it has a claimed top speed of over 62 mph.
Makings its world premiere at Makuhari, FT-EV II clearly points the way to the small city EV that Toyota plans to have on the market by 2012.
